   Austria > Law Enforcement > Steyr-Mannlicher

Since the 14th century the city of Steyr in Upper Austria has been a centre for metalworking companies and in particular for weapon forges. Already in the middle of the 17th century thousands of muskets, pistols, carbines and guns for the Imperial Army were produced per year. On April 16th, 1864 Josef Werndl founded the "Josef und Franz Werndl & Comp. Waffenfabrik und Sägemühle in Oberletten" (Josef and Franz Werndl & Partners Weapons Factory and Sawmill in Oberletten) from which later emerged the "Österreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft" (Austrian Arms Manufacturing Company), and subsequently the "Steyr Werke AG", and today's group subsidiary "Steyr Mannlicher".

Steyr AUG A2 Assault Rifle

The Steyr AUG A2 is a gas operated semi- and fully automatic assault rifle with locked action, quick changeable barrel and integrated optical sight. The "Bull Pup" design makes it a short handy rifle with high reliability and accuracy. The AUG is famous for its modular concept which permits field stripping into the main groups within a few seconds. The main difference from the AUG A1 to the AUG A2 is the housing group. The A2 housing has a removable standard optical sight , which allows quick attachment of Mil.Std. 1913 rail.

Steyr M9 Semi-automatic pistol

This modern handgun was developed by Steyr-Mannlicher in the late 1990s, and is intended for both police and civilian markets. The Steyr M-series pistol is a recoil operated, locked breech pistol with a polymer frame. It features patended, striker-fired trigger mechanism with multiple built-in safeties, including automated trigger safety, internal safety, manual safety switch inside the triggerguard and, finally, manual built-in keylock above the trigger. It also features a loaded chamber indicator on the rear of the slide. The grip of the M-series is ergonomically shaped, and the gun features very interesting sights: front sight has a triangle shape, and the rear sight notch is shaped lile trapezoid with open top side.
